Collecting Militaria
as a Hobby
I have been fascinated by history since childhood. Additionally, I have always been the 'collector type', so as I grew up, it was not surprising that I joined the camp of militaria collectors. Hungary has a sad history of warfare in the 20th century, the entire country became a battlefield in the second World War. The two strongest armies, Soviet and German, were struggling over Hungary between 1944 and 1945, with the additional help of Hungarian, Rumanian and Bulgarian troops, as well as heavy bombing raids of the British and American air forces, this country was tortured. The Hungarian flea markets still serve as gold mines of war relics for collectors. My collection started to take shape in the early 1990's, and since then I have filled up our rooms with diverse 'rusty objects', as well as moth-chewn uniforms. With Celeste's help I could herd this frameless pile of artifacts into an organized exhibition-like collection. On this page we highlight these sad, but still fascinating war relics. We would like to state that this collection is not propaganda for tyrannic regimes. These artifacts were the original and everyday weapons and equipment of soldiers in WWII encamped in Hungary, and are shown here as historical curiosities. We do not have any goal to offend anybody with these items, they are items as in any other collection: for entertaining and educational purposes only.
